Well, I'll be... a new Jaks Tales! I'm a bit upset though because I had to crop out some details becauyse for some reason, the panels came out skewed, despite meticulous and careful use of my straight edge. Well, maybe I scanned it wrong. Either way, when I go back to Florida I can re-scan it and possibly "color" it. And by color, I mean shade, like they do in Walking Dead. I bet that's why they can churn 'em out so easily- pencils, inks, black and white... not having a color palette sure saves time.
Anyway, yeah! A new Jaks Tales! I think I'm going to start uploading a new Jaks Tales on the first of every month. I don't want JT to be something I rush thorugh to get it out on time, so having a nice, long month to take my time with it will probably help.
Anyway, see you all on the 9th with a new Carzorthade!
APRIL FOOL's!!!1...
Thursday, March 1, 2007 - 1:35 AM
... sort of. See, this comic was supposed to be a lot of things. First and foremost, it was supposed to have been uploaded and online by April 4th. Secondly, it was supposed to have been inked. It's neither of which. It wasn't uploaded on time because of school. Classes are coming to a close, so work is increasing substantially. And, it wasn't inked because I can't find my dag-blasted inking pens.
Since the academic year is ending for me, I hereby announce my traditional hiatus until school is over. I intend to have a Carzorthade on Friday and then initiate the hiatus, but we'll see what happens. It's certainly a month-long hiatus for Jaks Tales, anyway.
This was not!

Told you there was a crowd scene! Man, if I had done this on Flash it would've taken WEEKS. Granted, this took me about a week and some change, so I guess that counts as plural... still!
But yeah, I'm starting to use a non-photo blue pencil and man it's awesome. Before, I'd do the entire sketch in regular ol' mechanical pencil graphite then trace it over onto a new sheet. So, it would use two sheets. Now, I draw the first layer in blue pencils, decide the right lines and draw over the blue lines with my mechanical pencil, and once that's looking all perdy-like I ink the graphite lines! I've always felt that in tracing, I was losing the "life" that went into the original drawings. Now that I'm not tracing onto new sheets anymore I get to keep that "spark" that went into the original.
Hurray!
This was not!

Schoolwork, etc. Carzorthade'll be on Friday. And, I'll be attending MegaCon on Saturday wearing my Carzorthade shirt. Should be fun.
So was this!

Well, I'll be! An on-time Jaks Tales!
Let me say right now, panel 6 is supposed to be at night. This is why I need Ben Serrette... without him, the comic is so much less.
This was on time.

Unlike Monday's Carzorthade. But, like I said in the related newspost, I simply have to work more on the weekend for comics. That, and take every available minute I have to do the stuff I need to do. Sort of makes sense, but by golly it is nice to zone out and watch TV.
So yep

Everything seems to be coming together nicely. And much quicker than usual! Jaks Tales will update on Wednesdays. Carzorthade will update MF. So, you guys get a full MWF update schedule! Not too shabby, eh?
I love JT

This was last Sunday's comic, but since I'm still relatively new at drawing by hand, that last panel really gave me a headache. No, really... I actually had to drive to Target in the middle of it to buy headache medicine.
Great Buddha!

Slacking, you say? Well, it depends on what you're talking about. Comics? Hell yes I'm slacking. Schoolwork? I've been working my ass off. Before, schoolwork was the most menial crap you could imagine. You know, busywork, papers, handouts... etc. Now, though, it's all creative right-brain stuff... animation, construction... you know, imagination stuff.
Don't worry, I'm not losing interest in Carzorthade nor Jaks Tales... it's just that the creative juice I usually flow on has been extremely tapped for school purposes. I need to find a happy medium so you guys aren't disappointed with every missed update. Like, maybe do a sketch to keep you guys satiated.
In any case, enjoy the next installment of JT. Sorry Jaks came out like an alien in the second planel. Bald heads are surprisingly difficult at times.
Jesus Christ

I'm up to my ass in work. I don't think I'll be making a Carzorthade for tomorrow, unless by chance events I manage to do the workload I'm planning on attempting to do today.
But, at least the next JT is done! I am enjoying drawing by hand, although what took me forever was that view of Jaks in the third panel. 2-Point perspective I can handle, but that awkward upwards-view of Jaks and his neck took me freaking forever to get it to a point where it didn't simply look like he had a squished head and an enlarged neck.
Anyway, there you go!
Worth it?

Told you I'd get it done. And, it's only Saturday. For a comic that's really only being done in my spare time, I'm happy with the progress I've made. Considering these past three comics have been the only comics I've ever done by hand, I'm pretty happy with how they're turning out. While I'm not happy with the ink job on today's comic, I'm just happy I can have an ink job at all! I know most comics are inked using Photoshop and the like, but there's something immensely satisfying about doing it yourself.
Then again, I've never tried inking in Photoshop... maybe that's more rewarding!
Will fix this later

This is a crappy scan, only because I still need to figure out how my new scanner works. Plus I have no Photoshop.
But, here it is! Man, I can't wait to make more. See you next week, hopefully.
Really new comic.

Let's see... March, April, May, June... that's only four months. That's not so bad, is it?
Needless to say, Jaks Tales is back. Ah hell, I'll say it anyway.
JAKS TALES IS BACK.
I'd like to think so anyway. I really have no plans for updating schedules... I made this comic more out of the sheer curiousity of whether or not I could do it all. And I could! Pencils, Lightbox, Inks later, here it is! I'm pretty much new to everything involving drawing and scanning and everything in-between, so you'll have to excuse the lack of shine. Speaking of which, make note of this comic- if all goes according to plan and I make these regularly, I'm going to look back on this and say... "Man... what utter crap I drew!" Just like I say for this comic.
